insights

1. A little nostalgia

Parents want their kids to enjoy the same games they did - better yet, side by side with them!

2. generations
at play

In order to get kids, parents, and even grandparents playing together, we needed to create a system focused on approachability and delight.

Starting with a friendly design language and easy-to-understand controls can lower the barrier to entry for non-tech-savvy individuals or gaming beginners.

3. safety ensured

In a connected world, parents can’t be sure what’s happening in online games

The Intellivision Amico is should provide in-person collaborative gameplay, featuring a library of titles rated E for everyone

bringing down the intensity

The goal was to create a form language for a video game console that would be more accessible and less intimidating to those who might be deterred by the high-tech and performance-focused look of the current generation of consoles. Instead of sharp edges and harsh lines, we explored soft flowing lines and pillowed surfaces that invite touch and interaction.

REFINING THE form language

We used sketching to explore the balance between soft forms and creating a clear intersection between the remotes and the body of the console.

gaming for the whole family

The design of the Amico console uses a soft form language to cue approachability, embracing a friendly and modern aesthetic that sets it apart from the intensity of traditional gaming systems. With a retro callback to the original controller design, the Amico evokes nostalgia while maintaining a fresh and inviting appeal, making it more accessible and appealing to a wider audience across generations & skill levels.

exploring color

In order to stand out in a market of all-black consoles, we designed four colorways to appeal to different portions of the market; the retro enthusiast, the parent, the gamer, and the tween. This moodboard represents the tween colorway called “Galaxy Purple”.
